I found a New York Times article from 1990, which documents the New York Urban League's Frederick Douglass Award, the league's highest honor, given to Betty Shabazz that year. Dr. Betty Shabazz, the widow of Malcolm X, they explain had earned advanced degrees after her husbands death and had traveled round the country talking about human rights.
